Community-engaged arts research involves collaborative creative practices between artists, researchers, and communities to explore shared questions, foster dialogue, and generate social impact. UTSA faculty and students integrate artistic expression with scholarly inquiry to address local issues and support cultural development.
UTSA Today NEH funding to expand humanities program for incarcerated scholars
A grant from the nation’s largest funder of the humanities will allow the UTSA College of Liberal and Fine Arts to expand a program serving incarcerated scholars in the state.

UTSA’s Mark McCoin has transformed an upright piano into “Roz” (“Robotic Resonance”), an AI-driven instrument built over seven years of collaboration. Roz is learning to listen, improvise, and evolve—blurring the line between instrument and entity.
