SUMMARY:Puro Conjunto: Border(less) Sound
DESCRIPTION:“Puro Conjunto: Border(less) Sound” celebrates how this uniquely Texan genre continues to thrive in San Antonio\, the region\, and beyond\, connecting past and present through its layered musical heritage. Conjunto is more than music — it is a living record of cultural exchange\, community identity\, and artistic innovation.  \n The exhibit explores conjunto music as one of Texas’s most vital and enduring cultural expressions. Rooted in working-class life\, conjunto tells a story of migration\, encounter and exchange\, resilience\, and celebration.  \n The exhibit will highlight the people\, places\, and traditions at the heart of conjunto. Museum visitors will see conjunto pioneer Bruno Villarreal’s accordion\, along with artifacts central to the genre—some of which will be on display for the first time\, plus loans from the community and other organizations. Additionally\, visitors are invited to get hands-on with a selection of musical instruments at an interactive station. \nThis exhibit is generously supported by the Summerlee Foundation.

DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception: September 3\, 10 am – 1 pm \nArtist Talks: September 12\, 1 – 3 pm \nAntithesis in Contemporary Collage is an exhibition emphasizing high contrasts in paper collage\, bricolage\, and assemblage. Collage is an inherently versatile creative method\, often using old and new source materials\, with the ability to posture surreal environments by interruptions of scales\, figures\, spaces\, and perspectives. In this exhibition\, more intense contrasts are highlighted to elicit something even further\, in the way of opposites\, or relative extremes– aesthetically\, conceptually\, and curatorially. DESCRIPTION:UT San Antonio will be hosting the Actors From the London Stage’s Performance of Much Ado About Nothing on September 30\, October 2\, and October 3 in 2026 at 7:30 PM.  \nCount Claudio falls in love with Hero\, the daughter of his host. Hero’s cousin Beatrice (a confirmed spinster) and Benedict (an eternal bachelor) are each duped into believing the other is in love with them. Claudio is deceived by a malicious plot and denounces Hero as unchaste before they marry. She faints and is believed dead\, but recovers to be proved innocent by a chance discovery. Benedict wins Beatrice’s love defending her cousin’s honour\, and to his surprise\, Claudio is reunited with Hero\, who he believed dead.

SUMMARY:Brass Classics & Bold New Sounds with Boston Brass
DESCRIPTION:José Sibaja\, trumpet \nJeff Conner\, trumpet \nChris Castellanos\, horn \nDomingo Pagliuca\, trombone \nWilliam Russell\, tuba \n  \nSince 1986 Boston Brass has set out to establish a one-of-a-kind musical experience featuring colorful classical arrangements\, burning jazz standards\, and the best of original brass repertoire. Boston Brass treats audiences to a unique brand of musical entertainment that bridges the ocean of classical formality\, delighting regular concertgoers and newcomers alike with great music and boisterous fun in performances across all 50 U.S. states and over 30 countries to date. \nMusic education is at the core of Boston Brass’s identity and the quintet conducts sessions around the world in the form of masterclasses\, residencies and collaborations\, everywhere from your local schools to major music conservatories. The quintet has longstanding relationships at many institutions\, most notably Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Singapore and North Dakota State University\, both schools having named Boston Brass “Visiting Ensemble in Residence” starting in 2024. Boston Brass is also proud to be a member of the International Artistic Advisory Council to the College of Music at Mahidol University in Bangkok\, and in 2023 the group was inducted into the prestigious American Bandmasters Association as associate members. \nThe quintet’s newest album Blues for Sam features a mix of classical and jazz arrangements alongside old favorites and is dedicated to the late Sam Pilafian who can also be heard on Simple Gifts (2018)\, Reminiscing (2016)\, and Rewired (2015). Newly released in 2023 is the album Joe’s Tango\, which introduces our world premiere of Jorge Machain’s Five Cities Concerto alongside the UNLV Wind Orchestra. Other ongoing Boston Brass projects include performances of Gordon Goodwin’s composition Perplexing Times\, and premiere performances of Arturo Sandoval’s wind dectet written especially for Boston Brass and Imani Winds. \n  \nBoston Brass is a Yamaha Performing Group and performs exclusively on Yamaha instruments. Boston Brass is Visiting Ensemble in Residence at Yong Siew Toh Conservatory at the National University of Singapore\, and the Challey School of Music at North Dakota State University. \n

SUMMARY:An Evening with Jonathan Scales Fourchestra
DESCRIPTION:You’ve heard this before\, but the whimsically named Jonathan Scales Fourchestra is really tough to describe. Veering from in-your-face\, jaw dropping chops and passion\, to those quiet moments when the background noise disappears and you hold your breath to take in a\nsoundscape of solitude\, the power trio of electric bass (E’Lon JD)\, drums (Maison Guidry)\, and steel pans (Jonathan Scales) combines elements of jazz\, classical\, and progressive rock\,peppered with LaLn rhythms and soulful outbursts of funk. From club and fesLval stages across\nNorth America and Europe\, and tours of Africa\, Southeast and Central Asia as a Cultural Ambassador for the US Department of State\, to their NPR Tiny Desk Concert featuring Béla Fleck\, the Fourchestra’s live shows make even the most jaded listeners forget where they are…\neven if just for a precious moment. \nThis may seem an odd thing to say\, but on the verge of releasing their eighth studio recording\, Jonathan Scales Fourchestra is only now truly embracing their idenLty as a group. For many years\, Jonathan’s live band was a fluid lineup of top-notch musicians\, and even included an “all-\nstar” version with bassist MonoNeon (Prince\, Nas)\, drummer Sput Searight (Snarky Puppy\, \nSnoop Dogg) and percussionist Weedie Braimah (Trombone Shorty\, ChrisLan Sco[ aTunde Adjuah)\, as well as a number of other marquee players. Now\, however\, the Fourchestra is a decidedly indivisible band\, and Jonathan is wriLng for the trio\, not just the pans.

DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception: Oct 24 | 1:00 – 4:00pm \nArtists’ Talks & Panel Discussion: Oct 24 | 2:00pm \nThis year’s Symposium welcomes artists Anna Evans\, Coulter Fussell\, and Julia Gabriel Weber\, whose contemporary & non-traditional quilt making focuses on the landscapes and regions the artists inhabit with elements including natural dyes from the Utah desert\, imagery from the vast and textured sites of West Texas and crowd-sourced materials from rural Mississippi. \nDebbie McMahon Fiber Symposium\, established in 2010\, was named in honor of a longtime San Antonio resident Debbie McMahon. McMahon\, who passed away in September of 2007\, was an accomplished and devoted fiber artist who participated as a student and Trustee at the Southwest School of Art. We are very grateful to Joe McMahon Jr. for creating an endowment in Debbie’s name to facilitate this annual conversation on contemporary fiber arts. \nAnna Evans – Anna Evans’s multidisciplinary work centers around conceptual interpretation of desert ecology and culture in the Western United States. Her pieces literally start from the ground up: minerals/ochers she collects to create paint pigment\, regional agate she cuts and polishes to build one-of-a-kind jewelry\, and plants grown on her flower farm to produce color on fiber. She weaves together metaphysical symbolism\, traditional quilt patterns\, and Western iconography with a palette of docile desert tones to depict the place she inhabits and is most influenced by. Evans’ work is held in private and public collections such as the State of Utah Alice Merrill Horne Art Collection and The University of Utah Eastern’s Permanent Collection. In 2022 Evans was a Visual Arts Fellow with the Utah Division of Arts & Museums. Born and raised in Grand Junction\, CO\, Evans crisscrossed the western US and now lives in southeast Utah where she maintains her art practice. \nhttps://annaevans.com/ \n  \nCoulter Fussell – (b. 1977\, Columbus\, Georgia) is a visual artist who lives and works in Water Valley\, Mississippi. Her practice spans quilting\, upholstery and mixed media works that intersect photography and sculpture. She produces dream-like objects that blur perspectives of love\, violence and place in a rural world. Coulter integrates textile materials donated by friends and strangers with crowd-sourced video and photography\, creating forms that compare global conflicts\, both historical and current\, with interpersonal psychodramas. \nOptimism\, humor and the philosophy that Craft is the beginning and end of all Art guides her work. Coulter learned to quilt from her mother and make dolls from her grandmother. The rest she learned from YouTube. \nCoulter spent two decades as a career diner waitress while raising her children in rural north Mississippi. During that time\, she won numerous awards including the 2017 ArtsSouth Southern Prize Finalist\, a 2019 United States Artist Fellowship\, the 2021 Jane-Crater Hiatt Fellowship from the Mississippi Museum of Art and 2024 funding from The Andy Warhol Foundation of Visual Arts Exhibition Support Grant. Her work has been featured in 2024 art-book publication New Women’s Work: Reimagining “Feminist” Craft in Contemporary Art and Art In America. In 2025\, she became a Yaddo Fellow\, had her first solo show in New York City at MARCH Gallery and was featured at Arrival Art Fair with Wolfgang Gallery. Her work was named “Best of” by ArtNews for her showing at The Armory Show with Sheet Cake Gallery. Her solo show at The Mississippi Museum of Art opened in March 2026\, immediatly followed by an upcoming solo show of new works at Southside Gallery in Oxford\, Mississippi. In 2026\, Coulter received Creative Capital/State of the Art funding\, became a 2026 Hermitage Fellow and a 2026 Joan Mitchell Fellow. Having exhibited in numerous institutions and galleries across the South and New York City\, Coulter is currently a full-time studio artist. \n  \nJulia Gabriel Weber – Julia’s work begins with photography—images made quickly and intuitively\, often while traveling with her family between Texas and Oregon. These photographs emerge from moments of motion and interruption\, when something in the landscape demands to be seen before it disappears. \nShe uses textile processes such as quilting and weaving to slow these images down. What starts as a fleeting photograph is translated into fabric through repetition\, stitching\, and labor\, extending a split-second encounter into something deliberate and held. The transformation from lens to textile allows urgency and stillness to exist at the same time. \nBy merging photographic imagery with traditional textile practices\, her work explores how memory is formed through movement\, how time can be stretched through making\, and how moments that pass quickly can be steadied through material and care.

SUMMARY:North Indian Flute Across Traditions  with Maestro Deepak Ram
DESCRIPTION:A recital of Bansuri and Tabla\, featuring two evening ragas\, concluding with a traditional folk song. (North Indian Classical music) \nDeepak Ram is a versatile artist who is well known for his evocative performances in traditional North Indian (Hindustani) classical music\, his collaborations with musicians of other genres\, his innovative compositions and for his excellence as a teacher. \nDeepak’s first love is north Indian classical music. Indeed\, he is an accomplished soloist. He is a delightful and captivating performer\, combining technical mastery with personal charm. He has performed in the United States of America (where he is currently based)\, South Africa\, India\, United Kingdom\, Ireland\, France\, Austria\, Germany\, Lebanon\, Turkey\, Taiwan and Holland and had the honor of accompanying his teacher\, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia\, in Geneva\, London and Paris. \nDeepak’s versatility is apparent in his numerous collaborations with musicians of various genres. These include performances with jazz pianists Darius Brubeck and Bheki Mseleku\, Tunisian oud player and vocalist Dhafer Yousseff and the popular South African band Tananas. On January 1\, 2000\, Deepak performed with South African musicians like Sibongile Khumalo and the Rwandan diva\, Cecile\, on Robben Island in South Africa’s Millennium Concert hosted by presidents Nelson Mandela and Thabo Mbeki. Deepak has 9 solo albums to his credit and as a session musician can be heard on over 60 albums. His bansuri can also be heard on movie soundtracks\, such as “The Fast And The Furious”\, “Matrix Revolutions”\, “India\, Kingdom of the Tiger”\, “Stealth” and “Before The Rains”. \nIn 2000\, Deepak was awarded Best Instrumental Album at the South African Music Awards for his album “Searching for Satyam”. His previous album “Flute for Thought” also saw him being nominated for Best Male Artist and Best Instrumental Album in the 1999 South African Music Awards. Both these albums as well as “Beauty in Diversity” feature Deepak’s compositions and arrangements based on elements of north Indian music. In 2008\, The Board of Directors of Indo-American Chamber of Commerce in California selected Deepak Ram for the 2007 Award of Outstanding Contribution to Arts and Humanities. Previous recipients of this award include Ustad Ali Akbar Khan\, Ustad Zakir Hussain and Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri. \nDeepak’s knowledge of both Indian and western traditions is evident in his compositions which range from pieces for jazz groups\, western flute quartets (flute\, violin\, viola and cello)\, choral works and ballets to orchestral pieces. His last work ‘SURYA’ for classical guitar and bansuri\, commissioned by the award-winning guitarist Mesut Özgen was premiered at the University of California\, Santa Cruz. Deepak is currently working on music for bansuri and string quartet. \n
